Monday, 11/1/10 – Flesh Of My Flesh

I’m tellin’ ya’ now, he won’t be here in the mornin’.

Fact is, I’m done. There’s nothing more I can do.

He’s never going to amount to anything so there’s really no reason to let him go on living and…

Heh-heh. I almost said ‘living and breathing’ but Lord knows that those pitiful wheezings weren’t breaths, they were just the sounds that machines make when they are trying to force air into something already dead.

Well, I’ve wasted my last breath on him. Time to let him go.

How’s that go, ‘Flesh of my flesh’? Don’t look at me like that. I gave him life and dammit, I can take it away.

Now, don’t you think I’m sayin’ it’s easy. It’s not. Hardest thing I’ll ever do, killin’ someone like this.

You have young ‘uns. You know what it’s like.

They start out so small and so helpless. You hold them up and inspect them: ten fingers, ten toes. Yeah, you done good.

Then you watch them for a while to see what they will do. It’s funny, some start moving right away. Others just lay there doing nothing.

But that’s personality, ain’t it? Some got personalities, some don’t.

I’m OK with that. I don’t think I push too hard. I give them time to grow but, heck, it’s been how long now and he’s just not doing anything.

I suppose that there is some spark or something inside that makes us live. Whatever it is, he doesn’t have it.

If he had any vitals at all, if he showed a single sign then I would do everything in my power to keep him alive.

But, there comes a time when you have to let someone go.

We’ve reached that time.

Old days it was messy, ‘specially the older, bigger ones. You’d start them blades a spinnin’ and start pushing ‘em in and they would just scream, ‘Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!’. Awful sound.

Nowadays it ain’t so bad. Technology helped with that. No more screeching and squealing.

Heck, I don’t even own a shredder anymore. Most of my writing is done electronically. Just one click and any character I created is gone.

Instantly.

Forever.
